Beijing Guide : History of Summer Palace

The Summer Palace is one of the most beautiful garden architecture in China. Summer Palace has a long history of about 800 years. The Summer Palace was largely built during Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty. In 1924, when the last emperor Puyi was expelled from the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace became a public park.

Summer Palace of today is more or less the same as the palace rebuilt in 1903. This former imperial garden is an ideal place for Beijing residents and tourists during their leisure time.

Summer Palace, located in Haidian Distict of Beijing, is the best preserved imperial garden in China.
